The hardest aspects of life to figure out are finding what fulfills our purpose in the world, but also makes us feel satisfied. Confusing right? On top of that, the world pressures us to make these kinds of decisions before we are 20-years-old, before we even know who we are and what values we hold. So, here are some tips to searching for purpose while also attaining fulfillment!

  1. If you are still a college student, meet with advisors and career counselors. There are people who want to help you and resources that are there for you to use.
  2. It is okay to ask for help. Asking for help is not accepting defeat and does not make you a failure. If anything, it shows that you can put your pride aside and understand that you might not be the best at that task or at solving that problem. It is much more important to be able to recognize that than being able to do everything by yourself.
  3. It is okay to change your mind. Not everything about the rest of your life has to be decided right now! You can change majors, career paths, etc. whenever you want. The problem usually lies in how you feel the world is perceiving your choices. While people might have opinions, it is not their life! Remember that you need to what you need to do to be happy, and that is first and foremost.
  4. Set and re-set goals - get out of your comfort zone. Fulfillment comes when growth occurs, and that only occurs when you get out of your comfort zone. To do this, set long-term goals and then create short-term goals to eventually reach that long-term goal.

At the end of the day, none of us know what we are doing! Life is one big question mark that nobody truly has the answer to. The best we can do is figure out what works for us and keep going with that. There is no shaming in changing your mind or re-adjusting as time goes on. Your road to progress belongs only to you!
